Preventviolence.org is an online archive of public education campaign materials created to reduce access to guns and prevent violence against youth. Funded by The California Wellness Foundation, the decade-long campaign resulted in significant policy changes, including repositioning violence as a public health issue. It also contributed to the work of the Foundation grantees in saving lives and increasing prevention efforts to keep youth safe. Spanning a decade from 1994 to 2004, the campaign used television advertising, print ads, specially commissioned polling, voter- and youth-engagement tools and policy-focused materials. Evaluations, reports and media coverage documented the impressive results, yet much work remains. To this day, we receive inquiries about the best practices used in the campaign. It is our hope that the content and lessons learned will help researchers, foundations, violence prevention experts, policymakers and nonprofit leaders continue their work. This website was underwritten by The California Wellness Foundation and produced by the Foundation’s media partner, i.e. communications, LLC.
